Carputer

I started the carputer back in 2002 after hearing about VIA's new mini-ITX form factor integrated motherboards. Suddenly it seems possible to fit a computer in my car, so I set about the task of working out how to make the hardware run in a mobile environment.

5 April 2003

The database is launched!
New motherboardQuite some nice goodies in this update, firstly and most importantly I'd like to announce the launch of the carputer database. What the system allows you to do is add your own carputer to it, then it'll appear in the system so other people can find your website easily. Hope you find it useful.

Other than that I'd like to talk about what's next for my carputer project.
The next major upgrade will be the motherboard, as I'll be using one based off of the new C3 processor. Which is a redesigned version of the current core, which alot more FPU power, great for games!

USB 2.0 hubI also plan to buy a USB 2.0 hub which I'll mount on my dash board. This will allows easy plug & play of anything I want.
Also I'll be using it to connect a DVD drive to my system, so I can have it in the drivers cabin with me, rather than in the boot with the rest of the system. You can buy ATA to USB converters, which will make it an easy job to do.
I'm waiting until I get my new motherboard before doing this, with USB 2.0 ports, as USB 1.0 is very slow... about 11Mbps I think, compared to USB 2.0 which is over 20 times faster I believe.
