Carputer

I started the carputer back in 2002 after hearing about VIA's new mini-ITX form factor integrated motherboards. Suddenly it seems possible to fit a computer in my car, so I set about the task of working out how to make the hardware run in a mobile environment.

Success! Today I got the GPs working on my car :) With the GPs receiver mounted onto my roof, I had a lock on 4 satellites which was more than enough to make InfoMap lock onto my position. Before long I was driving round town, with the carputer showing my position, velocity and altitude, very cool :) The software even leaves a trial showing where I've traveled, a nice little travel log. I took a few pictures for your viewing pleasure. Wohoo! I'm really happy of the GPS working.

Here's a little overview of the car. You can see the GPS reciever on the roof and the display unit in the cabin. Beautiful! Look at that, showing me exactly where I've been and where I am :) Held to the roof via a magnet, let's hope this thing is waterproof ;)
